Advantages of being your own boss
1. Money: You’re in charge of your income. You earn much more than your employees. The entire results of your work: overtime, sweat, pain, investment comes directly proportional back to you, no fees deducted, you earn what you work.
2. Freedom: You get to make all of your decisions, no one else is telling you what to do. You don’t have to report to anyone except for yourself. Even though you may work overtime, but you can basically make your own hours and never get yelled at for being late, you can decide to work really hard one day and take half day off the next day. You get no worry about your career because you never get fired.
3. Benefits: You may get no paid vacation, but if your business is a successful, well-oiled machine you can do what you want and you deserve to do what you want for all the hard work you’ve done! Ultimately this can mean more time with your family. Also, if you have enough wealth from your business you can afford what you need when it comes to healthcare options and you aren’t tied down to what a company is offering you.
4. Responsibility: As your own boss you will always have responsibilities, but if your business is successful the responsibilities become less of a burden. Things eventually fall into place. Part of it can be fun! You want to be your own boss so you can make the decisions. You decide how to market your product. It’s a big responsibility because you’ll either fail or succeed, but it’s a fun responsibility because you’re in charge!
5.More freedom – there’s nobody telling you what to do
6. More self-confidence – it’s prestigious to be your own boss
7.Less stress (once you’re up and running)
8.No limits – you can aim as high as you like
9.You can control how much you earn, and how much you invest
10.You can create your own working environment.

Disadvantage of being your own boss
·         Responsibility and stress
·         Crazy, long hours (while you’re setting up)
·         No paid holidays (while you’re setting up)
·         Uneven salary (while you’re setting up)
·         You have to deal with all sorts of problems – there’s no one else to blame
·         You can't be lazy and still get paid!
·         You won’t get paid extra for overtime!
·         Your pension fund and medical aid are paid by yourself
·         There’s pressure to perform
·         There may be uncertainty – there are no guarantees
·         You may feel isolated or lonely
·         You will need to motivate yourself
Advantages of working for someone else
The greatest advantage of being employed by somebody else is the financial security and the additional benefits such as paid holidays, a guaranteed pension and possible bonuses. You also have the advantage of knowing how much income you will take home each month and can manage your finances to live within your means.

Try before you buy- As an employee, getting regular income, you have less financial pressure. That’s why you can expose yourself to a few industries and roles before locking yourself into a business or industry. Trying several roles is a great way to learn more about what you enjoy, what’s important to you and what you’re great at—before you risk your own capital in a venture.
Save, save, save- An almost guaranteed paycheck is one of the perks about working as an employee. The trick then is to keep your eye on the ball and save as much of your salary as you possibly can.

Make mistakes on someone else’s tab- The sooner you accept that mistakes are part of your growth process, the sooner that you’ll stop wasting time dwelling on them and spend more time learning from them.

Disadvantage of working for someone else

·         The daily commute
·         Only having a set amount of holiday to take each year
·         Childcare means you either work shorter hours or pay someone else to mind your children
·         You're a cog in a machine and you have little freedom to make your own choices

After review my findings I would prefer to own my own business.

Click on the link below to view my wiki page. It is about music, check it out.
 http://maestro7.wikispaces.com/

A lot of students have access to computers/ internet this enables the teacher to post useful information and links for research on the wiki page, therefore making wiki a good instructional tool.  The link to the wiki page can also be shared with parents so that they are also able to keep track of their children's classes/ lessons.

Reflection
 Portfolio piece #7

A wiki page was created for portfolio piece #7
It took me a while to maneuver my way though  wiki but I was eventually able to accomplish my task.  My wiki page was a group project about the different genres of music. Some of the difficulties I faced were due to me not being familiar with the program but since it was a group project, i was able to get the necessary help when needed.
Through practice and increased use of the wiki page, I would be able to improve the wiki page as time goes by.

Podcast as an instructional tool

A Podcast is an essential tool because it help develop students; confidence, creativity, self-expression and speaking and listening. A podcast also encourages individuals to share their views on issues related to the topic being discuss.
My group member and I created a podcast, to highlighting issues we teachers face in the classroom, due to the lack of resources to effectively deliver our lesson.
There are many uses for podcast in the classroom. they can be used to convey instructional information from the teacher, podcast can also be used by the learners as artifacts and evidence of learning, for example, a student might prepare a brief podcast as a summary of a concept learn in writing essay. Podcast can also be used as a means of self-reflection on the learning processes or products.

Reflection Portfolio piece #2
my group and i decided to design a chart to illustrate the types and properties of triangles.
This chart will be used as a visual, in the introduction of Triangle, in the Technical Drawing lesson. The chart will also be place on the wall of the classroom, so students can refer to, any given time.
Although the task was an enjoyable one, and i'm accustom to using Microsoft word, i had problems using the wrap text tool. which was a challenge and placing the the picture on the blog also.
I think this chart could have laid out better, however i think the student would still, find it, informative.

The importance of TVET to the society

The importance of TVET to the society

By: Jermaine Daniel.

According to UNESCO, technical and vocational education refers to “these aspects of the educational, process involving in addition to general education, the study of technologies and related sciences, and the acquisition of practical skills, attitudes, understanding and knowledge relating to occupation in various sectors of economic and social life” UNESCO [2201]

TVET is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are flexible and relevant to the demands of today’s societies. Thus tvet has been increasingly challenged to adopt itself to diverse and constantly changing needs of the labour market.
Therefore tvet is concerned with preparation for employment and the ongoing updating and upgrading of the competencies of the members of the workforce.
Hence tvet may be seen both as a vehicle for the development of marketable and entrepreneurial skills and as an engine for development.
Tvet aim to prepare the individual to become a responsible, mature person, equipped not only with the appropriate skills and knowledge of the latest technologies but also with deep human and spiritual values and attitudes, a sense of self worth, self esteem and dignity, the ability to work by oneself and with others in teams, with integrity, honesty, punctuality and responsibility to adopt to varying situations to know and understand problems and issues to work out solutions creatively, to resolve conflicts peacefully to have a good grasp of the reality of the world, of oneself and others, and to acquire the ability to continue learning and pursue life long education in a learning society.

Since education is considered the key to effective development strategies, tvet much be the master key that can alleviate poverty, promote peace, improve the quality of life and help achieve sustainable development. Tvet helps to enhance the economic well being of all individuals in a community in a way that contributes to social cohesion and democratic values; this is also expected to have beneficial effect of cranking up the local economy from within instead of depending on external assistance.

Traditionally people thought that tvet didn’t create employment, globalization is rapidly changing this perception, and thus a country can attract business. Tvet should inspire young people in a positive attitude to innovate and enable them to help shape change and prepare them for self reliance and citizenship.

I hope that we can come to a deeper realization of the urgency of and a stronger commitment to consider, the role and place of values of education in tvet program, it is said tvet is expensive and the costs of running a tvet programmed are very often considerably more than of academic programmes.
“Tvet programmed can be highly complex due to the need for highly specialized equipment, proper facilities, supplies and instructional resources which much be maintained and replaced when they become obsolete”
TVET is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and skills that are flexible and relevant to the demands of today’s societies. Thus tvet has been increasingly challenged to adopt itself to diverse and constantly changing needs of the labour market.
